Fannie Mae announced the opening of its twelfth help center in Washington D.C. The new Capital Area Help Center will provide free education and counseling services to struggling homeowners in the Washington D.C. area.

The Center was developed in partnership with the HomeFree-USA, local community and elected officials, and area mortgage servicers and is available to residents in the entire Washington D.C. area including Maryland and Virginia.

The Center will provide services that have been available at the other eleven Help Centers including reviewing mortgage loans with families who are behind on their mortgage or may be at-risk of foreclosure, discussing loan modification and other alternatives to foreclosure, processing their documentation and making timely decisions on any pending loan workout efforts. Services are available in both English and Spanish.

“There are many families in the DC area that are struggling to make their mortgage payments. We are committed to doing our part to help them understand their options and avoid foreclosure,” said Mike Williams, President and CEO, Fannie Mae. “Our Help Centers have assisted nearly 9,000 homeowners across the country, with 60% able to remain in their homes. The Help Centers are a valuable resource for homeowners with Fannie Mae loans to determine their options and pursue solutions.”

The center can also assist you if you’ve been a victim of fraud by fraudulent groups charging fees for modifications and foreclosure related services, and other mortgage related scams.

Free services are offered to those families who have a mortgage owned by Fannie Mae. Find out if your home is owned by Fannie Mae by going to www.fanniemae.com/loanlookup or call 1-800-7FANNIE.

If your loan is not owned by Fannie Mae, contact HomeFree-USA at Tel: (301)891-8400 for assistance and advice to avoid foreclosure. You can also visit their website here.

The Mortgage Help Center is available by appointment only and customers wishing to schedule a visit should call 866-442-9376.
